The covid-19 crisis has highlighted the era of scientific mystifications and mystifiers. Who are these mystifiers? And why do so many people now subscribe to such fanciful and misleading rhetoric?
The mystifiers didn't just appear one day in the spring of 2020. This documentary takes us back in time, investigating the recent history of anti-science, even before the arrival of social networks. It starts with the "mystifications" and tells who's behind them, with what methods and what intentions.
Who were the great mystifiers of recent decades - from Trofim Lyssenko to Didier Raoult?
Over the course of 90 minutes, this documentary explores the elements that have enabled them to flourish, taking a historical and societal approach; to reveal how false information is propagated, endangering public health and leading to a loss of confidence in science and medicine.
The documentary combines never-before-seen interviews and little-known archives, and takes the form of an investigation led by Patrick Cohen, immersing us in four major scientific controversies of the past. We analyze them in the light of the current pandemic.
